Help
Here are the most common questions, explained step by step. If you can't find what you're looking for, write to us and a real person from the team will reply.
Peregrinia is a website for planning the Camino de Santiago and, above all, for not walking it alone if you don't want to. Here you can choose a route, see the stages and the albergues, plan your trip day by day and find other people who are starting on the same dates as you.
It works in the browser on your phone and your computer, with nothing to download. On the Camino you can carry your plan with you even without signal, and keep a diary for yourself or for your family.
Yes. Peregrinia is free for pilgrims: creating an account, planning My Camino, looking for company, sending messages and using the diary cost nothing.
The only paid part is optional and is for businesses on the Camino (albergues, bars, shops) that want to manage and highlight their listing. We will never ask you for a card.
No. Peregrinia opens in your browser, like any other website. If you want it close at hand like any other app, you can add it to your phone's home screen:
On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap the “Share” button (the square with an arrow pointing up) and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the three dots at the top right and choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.
Go to “Camino companions” and choose your route and the month you're starting. You'll see posts from other people walking that route on those dates, with where they start, how many days they're walking and at what pace.
If there's nobody yet, post your own departure: say where you're starting, when, and how you like to walk. Anyone looking for the same thing will find you. You can also create an alert, and we'll let you know when someone posts a departure that matches yours.
Open the post you're interested in and tap the button to join. There are two kinds of group:
If it says “Count me in”, anyone can join and you're in straight away.
If it says “Request a place”, the organiser accepts each person. Write a few lines about yourself: how many days you have, what pace you walk at and where you plan to sleep. It really helps you get accepted.
You need an account with a confirmed email address. It's free and takes a minute.
Your request goes to the organiser, who can accept it or not. You don't need to do anything else: we'll let you know through the bell on the website and by email as soon as they decide.
If they accept you, you're in the group: you can talk to the others in the group's private chat and see the meeting point, which only accepted members can see.
If they don't accept you, that's fine: look for another departure on your dates or post your own.
Tap “Create my Camino” and answer three questions: which route you're walking, what day you're starting and who you're going with. With that, we'll set out your stages day by day. You can change them later if you start somewhere else or want shorter days.
From your plan you'll see how long until you set off, where to sleep each night and who else is starting that month. And once you're walking, you can write your diary in the same place.
The credencial is the pilgrim's passport: you get it stamped at albergues, churches and bars to show you've walked the route. You can get one from Camino associations, from many parishes and albergues at the starting points, and from the Pilgrim's Reception Office, for a small fee.
The Compostela is the document that certifies you've done the Camino. To get it, you need to cover at least the last 100 km on foot or horseback, or 200 km by bicycle, finishing in Santiago, with your credencial stamped twice a day on that final stretch. You collect it at the Pilgrim's Reception Office in Santiago.
Peregrinia does not issue the credencial or the Compostela.
Yes. In your diary, under “Share”, you can invite your family by email or create a private link for them. They'll only see the days you mark for family; the rest stays just for you.
They don't need to create an account or install anything to read it.
Most pilgrims walk with people they meet on the Camino, and Peregrinia helps you do it with more peace of mind: you can see each person's profile, reviews from people who have already walked with them, and talk before you set off.
Even so, use common sense: chat before you meet up, meet for the first time in a public place during the day, tell someone you trust who you're walking with, and don't share your address, your documents or your bank details.
If something doesn't feel right, you don't have to explain yourself: you can leave the group, block that person and let us know. You'll find more tips in our safety guide.
You decide. In your profile, under “Who can see you”, you choose whether all pilgrims can see it or only you. A visible profile can also show up in search engines like Google.
Your email address is never shown to anyone. Nor is your phone number, if you verify it. And the exact meeting point of a group is only visible to the organiser and the people who have been accepted.
If you block someone, neither of you will see the other's profile, groups or messages any more.
On that person's profile, on their post or on the message that bothered you, tap “Report” and tell us briefly what happened. A member of our team reads it and takes action if needed: they can remove the content, suspend the account or ban the person from the community.
If you also never want to hear from them again, tap “Block”. The other person won't know you reported them.
If you feel you are in danger, call 112 first.
Wait a couple of minutes and check your “Spam”, “Junk” or “Promotions” folders: sometimes it ends up there.
If it isn't there, log in to Peregrinia with your email and password and tap “Resend verification link”. Also check that you typed your address correctly: you can fix it in your profile, under “Your account”.
If it still doesn't arrive, write to us from this page and we'll look into it.
On the “Log in” screen, tap “Forgot your password?” and enter your email. We'll send you a link to create a new one; it works for one hour.
If you'd rather not use a password, you can sign in with “Email me a link”: you'll get a link that logs you straight in.
On a computer, use the language selector in the bar at the top. On a phone, open “Menu” and choose “Language”. Peregrinia is available in twelve languages.
Emails and notifications have their own language setting: change it in your profile, under “Notifications and email”, with the “Email and notification language” option.
Go to your account and open “Notices”. There you choose, one type at a time, what reaches you by email and what doesn't. Notifications will still appear under the bell on the website even if you turn emails off.
Community news emails and the weekly summary have a link at the bottom to unsubscribe with a single click, without logging in.
Go to your profile and, at the bottom of the page, tap “Deactivate my account”. We'll explain what happens and ask for your password to confirm.
When you deactivate it, you're logged out, your profile, posts and stories are no longer visible, and you stop receiving emails and notifications. We don't delete your data: the law requires us to keep it for at least five years, and nobody else can see it.
If you change your mind, log in within those five years and you can reactivate it, with everything just as you left it.
If you have an account, go to “My requests” and tap “New request”. You'll see our replies on that same page, and we'll let you know by email and through the bell when we answer.
If you don't have an account, use the contact form and we'll reply to the email address you give us.
We don't offer support by phone or WhatsApp: that way every request is in writing and nothing gets lost.
Yes, if you get it ready beforehand. In your plan, tap “Save My Camino offline” while you have a good connection (Wi-Fi is best). Your stages, the route line, the basic services for each stage and any guides you've saved are stored on your phone. The background map is not saved.
You can also write your diary without signal: whatever you write stays on your phone and is sent automatically when you're back online.
Phone notifications tell you straight away when someone writes to you or accepts you into a group. We never turn them on unless you ask.
On Android: open Peregrinia in Chrome, go to “Notices” in your account, tap “Enable notifications on this device” and accept when your phone asks.
On iPhone: first add Peregrinia to your home screen from Safari (the “Share” button, then “Add to Home Screen”). Open it from that icon, go to “Notices” and tap “Enable notifications on this device”. You need iOS 16.4 or later.
If one day you don't want them any more, you can turn them off in the same place.
We couldn't find an answer with those words. Try simpler ones or ask us directly.
