The stage, step by step
Leaving A Caridá
You start in A Caridá, where you can have breakfast and set off with your pack ready. The first descent comes between km 5.1 and km 5.9, followed by a 53 m climb between km 5.9 and km 8.4.
Passing through Arboces
The path reaches Arboces after the first undulations. Albergue de peregrinos de Arboces is there, but it is not a good idea to treat the settlement as a major resupply point.
The long stretch towards Ribadeo
From Arboces, you continue towards Ribadeo on a relatively manageable profile. Between km 14.6 and km 18.3, a 47 m descent helps you make progress, although the terrain continues to change gradient.
Entering Galicia
The final kilometres bring you towards Ribadeo and the natural border between Asturias and Galicia. On arrival, there is a much wider choice for eating, shopping and arranging your overnight stay.
What to see on stage 27
A Caridá
A Caridá is the starting point and the last obvious place to organise your day. You can shop at Dia and have a drink at Valkemburg Café before leaving the services behind.
Arboces
Arboces is the only intermediate settlement on the stage. Its position is useful for gauging your progress, and it has Albergue de peregrinos de Arboces.
Asturias–Galicia border
The stage approaches the natural border between Asturias and Galicia. The change is also noticeable on reaching Ribadeo, a Galician harbour town.
Iglesia de Santa María de Ribadeo
Iglesia de Santa María de Ribadeo is one of the points of interest in this harbour town. You can visit it after finishing, once you have dropped your pack and have time to explore the destination.
Where to sleep in Ribadeo
At the start, you can stay at Albergue La Xana or Albergue de Peregrinos A Caridá. On the way, Arboces has Albergue de peregrinos de Arboces, the only intermediate option of the day. Ribadeo is where everything is sorted: Albergue De Peregrinos De Ribadeo for a public option, plus Albergue El Olivo, Albergue A Ponte, Hostel Namor, Río Eo and O Teu Sitio Hostel nearby. It is a popular coastal town in summer, so do not arrive late without having arranged somewhere to stay.
Where to eat and refuel
Before leaving A Caridá, you will find Valkemburg Café and Dia. Arboces should not be your only plan for food, so carry something in your pack; in Ribadeo, you will have plenty of choice, including Restaurante Marinero, La Solana, Linares and Cervecería San Roque. You can also shop when you arrive and prepare for the following day.

Make the most of A Caridá
Leave A Caridá with water and some food. The marked points include drinking water, Fuente Polideportivo Tol, Barres and Fonte Vella, but you should not rely on finding every one open or accessible.
Do not mistake distance for ease
It is 21.3 km, but includes 157 m of ascent and 180 m of descent. The profile is gentler than the previous stage, although it still has several undulations.
Allow time for the arrival
The descent between km 14.6 and km 18.3 helps you make progress, but there are still changes of gradient before Ribadeo. Do not run down your water thinking you have already reached the destination.
Plan for the change of region
Ribadeo marks your entry into Galicia. If you need to shop, eat or confirm accommodation, do it when you arrive before considering the day over.
