The stage, step by step
Leaving Santo Domingo
You leave Santo Domingo alongside the remains of the historic causeway built for pilgrims. The first kilometres climb gently between km 1.5 and 6.5, gaining 93 m before reaching Grañón.
Grañón and Redecilla del Camino
Grañón is the first important village and a good place to take the day at an easy pace. The Camino then continues towards Redecilla del Camino; between km 7.5 and 8.5 there is a short but steeper ramp, with an average gradient of 3.9%.
Castildelgado and Viloria de Rioja
The route continues along agricultural tracks parallel to the N-120, passing Castildelgado and Viloria de Rioja. There is another climb between km 12.8 and 14, followed by an alternating descent and further ascent before the final section.
Entering Belorado
Between km 15 and 19.3, the route gains another 58 m at an average gradient of 1.4%. It then descends to Belorado over the final kilometres, where you can finish at the Albergue Municipal El Corro or the Refugio Parroquial de Belorado.
What to see on stage 10
Puente sobre el río Oja
Santo Domingo de la Calzada preserves the historic bridge over the Oja river, with 16 arches. The Ermita del Puente stands beside it, another reminder of the infrastructure created to help pilgrims cross the river.
Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Grañón
Grañón is one of the intermediate villages on the stage and has this church of Romanesque origin. It is a good place to stop before continuing along the agricultural tracks towards Castilla y León.
Iglesia de Santa María del Camino
This church in Redecilla del Camino is known for preserving an interesting Romanesque baptismal font. The village lies at a convenient point for a break.
Belorado
Belorado marks the entrance into Castilla y León after leaving La Rioja. It is a practical destination for resting, with several albergues and services for preparing the next stage.
Where to sleep in Belorado
Santo Domingo de la Calzada offers the Albergue Casa del Santo, the Albergue de la Abadía Cisterciense Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación and the Hostal El Molino de Floren. Grañón has several possibilities, including the Albergue Casa de las Sonrisas, the Albergue Nuestra Señora de Carrasquedo, the Albergue Parroquial de Grañón and the Albergue parroquial San Juan Bautista. In Redecilla del Camino there is the Albergue municipal San Lazaro, and in Castildelgado the Albergue Bideluze. Belorado has the Albergue Municipal El Corro and the Refugio Parroquial de Belorado. There are alternatives at several points, but book if you want to sleep in Grañón or Belorado.
Where to eat and refuel
Food is easiest at either end of the stage. Santo Domingo de la Calzada is where you should have breakfast and buy supplies for the day: the villages that follow —Grañón, Redecilla del Camino, Castildelgado, Viloria de Rioja and Villamayor del Río— are very small, and you cannot assume their bar will be open when you pass, especially outside the season or in the middle of the afternoon. Carry something substantial in your rucksack and leave your proper meal until Belorado.
Practical tips for this stage
Carry food from the start
The route passes through villages, but you should not interpret them as a guaranteed chain of services. The prudent way to approach the day is to leave Santo Domingo with enough food and water to reach Belorado.
Be ready for a monotonous stage
Most of the route follows agricultural dirt tracks parallel to the N-120. It is an easy day for your legs, but visually less varied than the previous stage.
Use Grañón for a rest
Grañón comes after the first climb and offers several accommodation options. Even if you do not want to finish there, it is the best place for a break before continuing towards Redecilla del Camino.
Do not be misled by the profile
There is no long, punishing climb, but the stage includes several changes: an initial climb, a steeper ramp between km 7.5 and 8.5, and another ascent between km 15 and 19.3.
