The stage, step by step
From Frómista to Población de Campos
You leave Frómista for a shorter, more manageable day than the previous one. Fuente San Miguel lies in the first section, followed by Población de Campos, where you will find the Albergue Municipal de Población de Campos and the bar Los Cigüeños.
Towards Villarmentero de Campos
The Camino continues across the plain towards Villarmentero de Campos. Here you can find the Albergue Amanecer and the Bar-Cafetería El Fardel de Revenga, two useful landmarks so that you do not leave all your planning until the destination.
Villalcázar de Sirga
Further on, you reach Villalcázar de Sirga, with the Albergue de peregrinos municipal de Villalcázar de Sirga and the Albergue Don Camino. For food or a break, there are El Mesón de Villasirga, Mesón de Los Templarios, Las Cantigas and Tasca Don Camino.
Entering Carrión de los Condes
The final section takes you to Carrión de los Condes, where accommodation and services are concentrated. You can finish at the Albergue Río Carrión, the Albergue del Monasterio de Santa Clara or the Albergue Parroquial de Santa María.
What to see on stage 16
Iglesia de Santa María del Camino
The Iglesia de Santa María del Camino in Carrión de los Condes is a 12th-century Romanesque church. Its porticoed doorway reflects the French influence of models from Toulouse.
Iglesia de Santiago
The Iglesia de Santiago retains a late Romanesque doorway from the end of the 12th century, with a Pantocrator, Tetramorph and the Apostles. It is one of Carrión's great works of Romanesque sculpture.
Monasterio de San Zoilo
The Monasterio de San Zoilo was an important centre for welcoming pilgrims from the 11th century onwards. Its Romanesque doorway and cloister, with carved capitals, make it well worth visiting when you arrive.
Villalcázar de Sirga
Villalcázar de Sirga is the last settlement with a clear range of services before Carrión. Its position makes it a natural place to rest, eat or decide whether to continue to the destination.
Where to sleep in Carrión de los Condes
Frómista offers the Albergue Municipal de Frómista, Luz de Frómista, the Albergue Betania and the Albergue Canal de Castilla. In Población de Campos there is the Albergue Municipal de Población de Campos; in Villarmentero de Campos, the Albergue Amanecer. Villalcázar de Sirga has the Albergue de peregrinos municipal de Villalcázar de Sirga and the Albergue Don Camino. In Carrión, you can choose the Albergue Río Carrión, the Albergue del Monasterio de Santa Clara or the Albergue Parroquial de Santa María.
Where to eat and refuel
You can leave Frómista with several options, including El Chiringuito, Mesón Infanta de Castilla, Hotel San Martín and Restaurante Bar Vandos. In the middle section, Población de Campos has Los Cigüeños and Villarmentero de Campos has the Bar-Cafetería El Fardel de Revenga. Villalcázar de Sirga is the most complete stop before Carrión, with El Mesón de Villasirga, Mesón de Los Templarios, Las Cantigas and Tasca Don Camino. In Carrión you will find Restaurante La Corte, Restaurante Las Vigas, Restaurante Los Condes and El Doblón.
Practical tips for this stage
Make the most of the short distance
The 18.8 km allow you to walk at an easy pace and leave time to visit Carrión. Even so, do not turn the morning into an excessively late start if you want to stop in Villalcázar de Sirga.
Plan your water
Fuente San Miguel appears near the first section, but it is better to leave Frómista with a full water bottle. After that, you will have stopping points in the villages, rather than a continuous succession of fountains.
Take a break in Villalcázar
Villalcázar de Sirga is well placed for eating and resting before the arrival. If you walk straight through, you still have to complete the section to Carrión.
Do not underestimate the monotony
The terrain has little relief, and the plain can make the kilometres seem repetitive. Set yourself small targets at Población de Campos, Villarmentero and Villalcázar.
