What to Pack for the Camino de Santiago: Ultra-Light Checklist

What to Pack for the Camino de Santiago: Ultra-Light Checklist

The golden rule: under 8 kg

Your loaded backpack (without water and food) should not weigh more than 8 kg. Every gram you add will feel multiplied on the uphills. Less is more.

Footwear

Light, broken-in trekking boots (never wear new boots on the Camino!), sandals for the albergue, and anti-blister trekking socks.

Clothing

2-3 technical t-shirts, 2 pants (one short), 1 light fleece, 1 rain jacket, underwear for 3 days, hat and gloves if going in spring or autumn.

Hygiene

The minimum: biodegradable multi-use soap, sunscreen, vaseline (anti-blister), toothbrush, and a small microfiber towel.
